Host and Hostess- Children's Lit
Nadia and Nadir are excited. Dadi (their grandmother) has arrived from Pakistan to stay with them for two weeks while their parents travel to Mecca for the Muslim pilgrimage. The young twins serve as tour guides as they visit many places of interest in Houston, including Buffalo Bayou Park, the Museum of Natural Science, and the Space Center. They take a tour in a double-decker bus to see Houston’s monuments and then introduce Dadi to tacos — a taste treat they all enjoy. The siblings take photographs of their adventures and create an album to share with their parents on their return. The colorful illustrations depict the happy family sharing both Pakistani and American traditions. A glossary defines the Pakistani words used for the family members and foods that are mentioned in the text. This beginning chapter book will introduce readers to aspects of the Pakistani culture and to some of the Houston’s interesting sights.
