Earth's Treasures
Jewelry, smartphones, and burn cream. What could these things possibly have in common? They all contain components that come from the earth! The Earth's Treasures series encourages readers to grab their rock hammer, don their safety glasses, and discover the wonders of Earth science. Readers will discover how these treasures form, where they are located, and how to find some on their own. Along the way, they will learn how each treasure is used, from lapidary art, to industrial applications, and medical technology. Sidebars introduce bonus information such as equipment and safety tips for rock hounds, a birthstone gallery, and the layers of the earth. Big, full-color photographs of rocks, gems, and minerals will dazzle the reader. Bolded glossary words and phonetic spellings for those hard-to-pronounce geologic terms enhance and supplement the text.

Earth's Treasures - Library Media Connection
The books in this series are an interesting mix of geology, geography, history. The source of these fine natural products are discussed and colorful pictures are used to give readers knowledge on where each comes from and how they are formed. The books are rich in vocabulary. The nonfiction titles could be used for research, or for close reading, and would be excellent paired with fiction that features similar themes. Recommended.
