Animal Superpowers – School Library Journal
Each title in this series briefly identifies one “superpower” for each animal, such as the alligator’s strong jaws or the regeneration ability of the salamander. This brief introduction is followed by straightforward species basics. Using a few sentences per page, the author covers habitat, behavior, physical features, and other general topics. The simple writing is appropriate for early readers. . . . Two or three photographs per spread add some visual appeal; a tooth-first image [of] an alligator is a particularly strong example. The superhero theme is reinforced in each book’s close with a cartoon drawing of the animal in superhero garb and a prompt for readers to imagine what its powers might be. . .
