Animals of North America – School Library Journal, Series Made Simple
In concise, matter-of-fact terms, the basics of each animal are introduced in three chapters covering physical characteristics, habitat, diet, and young. The author avoids the use of quantifiers, choosing instead to employ terms such as big, large, strong, and long. A “More Facts” section provides a small list of bite-size facts (for instance, moose eat pinecones as treats). Bright photos support the text and occasionally depict action scenes. The oversize format allows plenty of room for the single photo per spread. . . . This is a strong series for classroom and individual use.
