Super Simple Grassland Projects: Fun and Easy Animal Environment Activities (Awesome Super Simple Habitat Projects) – Booklist

Cover: Awesome Super Simple Habitat Projects

Though simple, the activities in this book are heavily content-based and appropriate as both rainy-day crafts or activities in a science or geography classroom. The animals that call the grasslands home are the focus of most of the projects, and a detailed explanation of the habitat’s basic food chain is included in the introduction. In fact, the interconnectedness of the species in the grasslands, the savanna, the pampas, and the prairie is the overarching theme of the book. Adaptations that make animals perfectly suited for life on the grasslands are highlighted in each of the six activities. Threats to endangered species, including poaching and habitat destruction, are discussed. Kinesthetically-minded readers will appreciate the hands- on nature of each activity, and adult facilitators will appreciate the short materials lists of easily acquired supplies. Taken as a whole, this group of activities manages to describe the similar characteristics of grasslands about the world, while at the same celebrating the biodiversity of its living organisms.
